So Far....

So Emily and I took the big plane to Utah about two weeks ago. We have been super busy since we got here so this is my attempt on a catch up blog. Mainly for Adam who is still home and dying for some photos of little Em.

When we first got here we had Emily's blessing at church. It was so fun to have all of my family there and to see her all dressed up in her white dress.

Last week we took a quick trip to Jackson Hole, WY and to Yellowstone. I was a little worried about camping with a 5 week old but it went pretty good. The weather was great. It rained a couple of times but it was cooler then Utah so I appreciate that! My mom was nice enough to play babysitter while I did the Whitewater trip down the Snake river. It was fun. It was more fun to get to enjoy the trip down this time with out getting bruised (HAM!) or being sacrificed (DAD!!) haha... I love water and doing the rapids again makes me want to learn how to Kayak. Maybe when I get back to New York that will be my new fun adventure!

On Tuesday my family threw me a baby shower. It was really fun to get to see everyone that I miss when I am gone. It was fun to have Emily at the shower so that everyone could see how darn cute she is. Thanks to everyone who came and everyone who threw it. It was so much fun!!

Emily's party outfit!

These two were really excited to be there!

We still have one more week to go here in Utah! It is going by way too fast....

Big Brother

Hey everyone! It is finally summer here in New York. It was a rainy cold June and over the weekend summer finally came!

Emily is doing great. She went to the doctor last week and she is now over 7 lbs! Big growth spurt. I hope it keeps going because I can't wait for those chubby rolls that babies get...

A lot of people have asked how Rocky has been dealing with the new arrival. He has been great. No jealousy that I can see. Adam is convinced if he holds Emily too long he gets jealous but I think that is all in his head...haha... I took Rocky for a walk with Emily yesterday for the first time and he did so good. He didn't pull... as much. And he would stop and wait for us and check on her ever few minutes. Funny dog. Emily loves to stare at Rocky. Everyone keeps telling me that babies can only see black, white, and red. Well Rocky covers two of those so he is the best toy she could have right now! :O) Here are some pictures of the two of them.

We hope everyone had a good July 4th!!!

Funny Face

This little girl is already just plain silly. She makes the funniest faces when she is awake but mostly when she is sleeping. Adam does the same thing when he is sleeping but it is just hilarious to see it on such a little baby. I have tried to get photos of them but I never seem to catch it quite right.

She also is a very funny sleeper. They kept telling me in the hospital that she need to be bundled up when she sleeps or she will not sleep good. But I have found that she likes to be bundled except for her arms. She likes those arms to be as free as can be while sleeping. She often sleeps with both arms stretched above her head. I think that is her favorite. Or she crosses them and folds her hand together. Or she rests her head in one hand. But the best was this yesterday...

Who knew my daughter would be a philosopher! :O)

What's in a Name?

It has been a fun couple of days for us so far. Emily has had a full week of events in her short life. We got to bring her home only after one day of light treatments. That was a very good thing or I might have had a nervous breakdown. Since she has been home our life has consisted of eating, pooping, sleeping, pooping, oh and pooping.

Yesterday she met her Aunt Kristi and Uncle Josh who came in for the day to visit. I am sure it will be a very memorable meeting in her life! :O) We went to a check up at the doctor and everything looks great. Her Jaundice is pretty much gone and she gain 1 oz. She has almost made it to 6 lbs.

So I realized that some might not know why we gave her the names that we did. Emily was pretty much the only name that we didn't fight about. But we wanted to give her a middle name that she could use in Istanbul if she chooses to ever get her citizenship there. Burke is a girl name there that means 'seagull'. It is pronounced differently then my last name but has basically the same spelling. So there you go. Don't worry people I wasn't trying to hyphenate or anything like that. :O)

Baby Update: She's Here!

Emily Burke Sevinc
June 11, 2009
5 lbs. 13 oz.
19 Inches Long

Well she is here! So I guess not an update but a welcome! She arrived Thursday afternoon kicking and screaming! :O)
Wednesday I had my regular weekly check up at my doctor. At the check up we found that my blood pressure was high. So my doctor sent me over to the hospital just to make sure everything was ok. So silly me I just thought it would be a quick check and I would be on my way. Three hours later they decided to admit me and induce labor. They were afraid I was in the beginning stages of Preclampsia. They admitted me and induced labor. Who knew on my way home from work that I would be starting labor, funny!
After about 15 hours of labor I had dilated to a 5 with no progress in sight. We made the decision to go ahead with a c-section since the baby hadn't really moved down at all. So at 3:33 pm Emily Burke Sevinc was born. She is more perfect then we could imagine. Everyone keeps saying she looks just like me , poor kid. But I think she has a bit of Adam in her as well.
After a LONG stay in the hospital (don't even get me started on the hospital! :O)) We were preparing to get discharged today. Everything was great we got her dressed and ready to go in the car seat and the doctor decided to do one last Jaundice test before she left. She had a small trace of it yesterday but he thought she looked better today. Well... Now we are home with out our little girl. They discharged me but are keeping her to do light treatments for Jaundice. I think it was harder then actual labor to leave the hospital with out her. Not knowing who is taking care of her or how she is. Hopefully by tomorrow she will be ready to come home.
Thanks to everyone who has called and came by to visit! We are hoping and praying by tomorrow we will be all at home together!

Happy Birthday Adam! (well... maybe not)

It was Adam's birthday over the weekend. His one request was for me to try and make him one of his favorite dishes- Stuffed Eggplant. Hmmm..... So I searched for a recipe and they all contained spices that you can't get or are uncommon in the US. But I finally found one that was Americanized and decided to try it out. Well then the fun began. I couldn't find the right size eggplant or the right peppers. So I thought I am a good enough cook I can make this work. Can you see the end result now?

It came out OK. It was edible lets say. But it wasn't what the birthday boy had hoped for that's for sure. I think I will just leave it to his mom to cook him his favorites from now on! Rocky enjoyed it so that's something! :O)

Practice Weekend

So we have had a tough weekend. I think Rocky was giving us practice for the baby. No sleep and STRESS!!! It all began on Thursday when we noticed Rocky was bleeding and scratching at his neck. We bought one of those cone collars so he would stop scratching at it. On Friday we noticed his eye was goopy and starting to swell. I always hear that dogs bodies are really good at healing themselves so we waited one more day to see if he started to look better. Saturday morning came and he was worse. His eye was almost swollen shut and he neck was worse. So we took him to the vet.

Two hours, hundreds of dollars, and several sedatives later we left with a bag full of prescriptions and the beat up dog that sort of looked like our Rocky. It took three grown men to hold him down just to shave his neck over the wound. That is after he was given Valium and a strong sedative. We found out that he has a tissue infection in his neck. The Vet thinks it may have started off with a small scratch but Rocky irritated it and scratch at it so much that it turned into an infection. That then spread to his eye. He is now on a massive dose of Antibiotics and steroids. He looks much better even just after a day of the meds so we are very hopeful that he will be back to his old trouble making self in no time.
